Welcome to my blog, friends!
This is my first posting on a blog and it sounds like it will be similar to the discussion boards we have in class. I hope everyone had a nice Fathers day weekend. We did, I had relatives over for a cookout and desserts. The time flew by, but I enjoyed every minute of it. I am taking 3 classes at Kaplan this term, so I feel the time management crunch when too many things get crammed into the weekend. I must say that in order to have that harmonious balance, I need to find a better system of personal time management.
Reflection.
Listening to the relaxation exercise assigned to us was a very pleasant experience and came at a good time. I usually dedicate my Mondays to homework, this A.M. I was able to sit outside and read. The morning was beautiful, birds were chirping, my cats and dog were out playing and chasing the birds. I had a delightful bowl of juicy dark cherries. It was nice until the shade was consumed by the hot Arizona sunshine and was almost instantly too hot. I decided to go inside, throw in a load of laundry, and start on another assignment. Later on, my son arrived for a pop in visit with his laundry. Once mine was done he put his in and left for some errands. I was able to listen to the relaxation exercise. The music was soft, the instructors voice set an adequate setting for the proprioception activity. I remember the point of saying to myself, "I am energized" feeling great then I was asked to become aware of my surroundings. That's when I heard it, the washing machine was bouncing. I was still in relax mode, so the issue at hand was not the urgency that it usually is. I assessed the situation, no flooding, the machine was just imbalanced, no sweat. I fixed it and went on with the day. Handling the issue was much easier after this exercise. Now, the quest is to tap into this mode any time necessary. Do you think it can be done?
Jenifer,
ReplyDeleteI thoroughly enjoyed your blog post. To answer your question, with practice and patience, you will be able to tap into this mode at any time. In the beginning, it will take a few minutes to relax and settle into that "me" place. This is the place where you feel your body, mind, and spirit release the day's tensions, your unresolved emotions, deadlines, etc. When I began, I started off with 30-minutes of meditation time. It would take me about 10 minutes to get to this place. However, over time, your body naturaly falls into it's own unique rhythm that you will be able to get to the "me" place in about a minute. I suggest that you practice controlled breathing throughout the day, too. For me, when I feel the stress building, I break and allow for my body, mind, and spirit to escape for about 3 minutes. Basically, I begin breathing to fill my lungs and cleanse my soul. I also use imagery to find my soothing place. Mine is the view from the Sandia Crest. I posted the picture on my blog. You will find your own. In the beginning, it use to be things I did with my children when they were very young. Anyway, the point is that it does take time, but you have the right frame of mind. You have made the commitment and have also discovered that it does work. Just imagine, once you established a firm foundation, you will be one lean, mean peaceful being. Great post!
